Eurostyle Systems produces the FHR safety system for STAND 21

The FHR system (Front Head Restraint) is safety equipment used in many racing sports in addition to the helmet. This system is mandatory in many international racing events.

The FHR system is the biggest safety innovation since the full-face helmet and the fire-resistant protective coveralls. It reduces the risk of neck fractures or muscle elongation during sudden deceleration, which is the leading cause of death during car races, by 80%. The principle of the FHR system consists of a support to which lanyards are attached, at the back and on each side of the helmet.

By producing each year more than 10 000 structural parts of different sizes, Eurostyle Systems provides to the world of car racing via its customer STAND 21 an innovative part that meets the constraints and requirements of international standards.

Eurostyle Systems is involved in the design and manufacture of this part with very complex mechanical properties. Numerous performance tests have been carried out to characterize the deflection under load and the fracture at the limits. This product comes entirely from the Eurostyle Systems Technical Center in Châteauroux, where different departments have pooled their know-how to meet the requirements of the International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) and its customer STAND21.

The teams were able to develop a new generation of FHR that guarantees a significant weight gain (≈ 30%) while ensuring the required safety conditions.

The work focused in particular on:

  • – The choice of the material (high mechanical characteristics, reduced density and good resistance to flame propagation).
  • – The redesign of the part with optimization of material consumption and specific ribbing on the back of the part for breakage outside the area of the neck.

Like all our solutions for vehicle interiors and exteriors, the FHR safety system is a source of technical and design evolution contributing to the improvement of comfort and quality perceived by users.

Our technical center in Châteauroux simulates the product’s behavior of products and manufacturing processes and produces realistic images even before the physical existence of the products we offer.

The behavior of our products under static, dynamic and crash loads are simulated by our calculation engineers, and this since 1999.

STAND 21 : “We are very satisfied with our collaboration with the Eurostyle Systems team for the development and manufacturing of our additional FHR collection. Indeed, we have been able to complete our FHR 100% carbon offer in order to propose a competitive product range in order to reach 100% of the amateur pilots. This way, each driver can equip himself according to his budget and obtain an optimal safety. Finally drivers and sport authorities have fully benefited from this competitiveness.
